Brown Bogolan Mali Mud Cloth
GHS 598.00
Authentic Mali mud cloth, known as Bogolanfini or bogolan, is a traditional cotton fabric from the Bamana people of Mali. Men weave the base cloth in narrow strips that are sewn together, while Bogolan women apply the designs using fermented mud collected from riverbeds along with plant-based dyes.
The resulting geometric patterns such as chevrons, triangles, zigzags, X shapes, crosses, and other motifs often carry cultural meanings linked to history, proverbs, protection, and life events. These cloths are available in a variety of colors, ranging from the classic white-on-brown or black combinations to terracotta, red, orange, and other earth tones, as well as a wide range of designs that vary by region and maker.
