EweKente.com is a website developed and run by Weis Web Developers. It began with a visit to Agbozume, Ghana, in 2022. Louis Were, who is Ugandan-Kenyan, saw Ewe Kente being woven by hand for the first time. He was drawn to the culture and traditions, and to the care that goes into making each cloth.
Louis also saw how much people valued Ewe Kente and how difficult it could be for artisans to reach buyers outside their local area. That visit gave him the idea for a website where artisans could sell their work directly to a wider market.
Louis now lives in Segbe, near the Ghana-Togo border. From there, he works with artisans in Ghana’s Volta Region, helping connect them with customers and fulfil orders. EweKente.com is one way of sharing Ewe weaving and culture with people around the world.
Why Ewe Kente needs more attention
Ewe Kente has a deep history and a weaving tradition with its own patterns, meanings, and methods. It is as distinctive as Asante Kente, but it receives much less visibility.
That matters because a tradition can be harder to pass on when fewer people know about it or have a way to buy directly from the people who make it. EweKente.com aims to give Ewe Kente and its artisans more visibility, help buyers find authentic handwoven cloth, and support the continuation of the craft.
